Low-End Mix Problems to Fix Before Mastering
Diagnose sub weight, bass translation, low-mid buildup, stereo low end, and headroom before limiting.
Low end needs controlled weight, not just more bass
The low end is where small rooms, headphones, and limiters lie. Mix Analyzer helps separate sub weight, bass fundamentals, low-mid buildup, stereo low-frequency risk, and loudness/headroom pressure on the uploaded bounce.
Sub bass
Energy below the bass fundamental that affects weight, club systems, and headroom.
Bass translation
60-120 Hz support that keeps kick and bass readable on full-range systems.
Low-mid mud
150-350 Hz buildup that can make a mix feel smaller even when it is loud.
Stereo low end
Width and phase clues that reveal whether the foundation will survive mono playback.
Separate sub weight from low-mid mud
A mix can have too much low end and still feel thin if the energy sits in the wrong place. Use frequency balance and reference match together so you know whether the issue is sub, bass fundamentals, or low-mid masking.
Module-led checks
- Open Frequency Balance and look for repeated low-end or low-mid warnings.
- Use Reference Match to compare tonal shape against the selected genre target.
- Check Loudness and True Peak so the bass is not only winning by eating headroom.
Keep kick, bass, and subs in roles
Kick and bass can both be strong, but not in every frequency range at every moment. If they fight, mastering compression will exaggerate the conflict and flatten the groove.
Revision moves
- Decide whether kick or bass owns the deepest energy in each section.
- Use arrangement, sidechain, EQ, saturation, or automation before adding more limiting.
- Re-run the analysis after one change and compare low-end, stereo, and headroom output.
Check translation before mastering
The report is strongest when paired with listening: quiet volume, mono, headphones, small speakers, and a matched reference. Fix the mix before relying on mastering EQ to compensate.
Practical loop
- Listen quietly and ask whether the bass line is still readable.
- Check mono if chorus, stereo bass, or wide synth layers feed the low end.
- Export one revised bounce and compare it against the previous Mix Analyzer result.
